”All I Feel is You” by Jóhannes Stefán

Chorus Chronicles 22 June 2025

The song “All I feel is you” was released on June 20th 2025, and it’s the final song on Stefan’s debut album. The song is a personal memorial song about a child who passed away in his family, but it should be able to reach anyone who has experienced the loss of someone young in their lifetime. The song might be classified as a kind of funeral song or a sad song. The arrangement is therefore very minimalistic. The lead vocal is intentionally placed up front and raw, to the point where it dominates the instruments. Guðrún Bjarnadóttir sings the backing vocals, and the idea is that her voice represents an echo or memory (of the child who has passed away) – She is singing back to remind us that she is all around.

The lyrics in the verses refer to all the lost opportunities that life could have offered. The chorus reflects the feeling a parent or family member may experience as they close their eyes with their head on the pillow, overwhelmed by the memory – the person feels, sees, and hears nothing, except you (the one who has left this world).

Stefan went through many versions, some with a lot more instruments, cello/strings, more guitars, etc., but in the end, the decision was made to leave most of them and keep the song this fragile, personal and minimalistic. Stefan thought it captured the feeling better that way, even though it might miss commercial, polished production and sound.

Recordings took place partly last summer in Eðvarð Egilsson’s studio in Seltjarnarnes. But additional recordings of backing vocals and some instruments were made in Pétur Ben’s studio in Gufunes.
