”The Emperor Wears No Clothes” by Digney Fignus

Chorus Chronicles 22 June 2025

Digney Fignus is a Cape Cod-based Americana artist, celebrated for his genre-blending style, storytelling prowess, and a career that has spanned from Boston punk clubs to international chart success. His music continues to inspire and challenge, with an enduring message rooted in truth, humour, and humanity.

A standout from Fignus’ upcoming album, Black and Blue – The Brick Hill Sessions (scheduled for August 22nd release), the single offers a biting and thought-provoking reflection on power, deception, and truth. With its infectious groove and masterful storytelling, “The Emperor Wears No Clothes” continues Fignus’ tradition of crafting socially conscious Americana with depth and wit. “This song was inspired by that old fairy tale we all know,” says Fignus. “But the truth is, it’s never just a story. When those in power lose touch with reality—and no one speaks up—the consequences ripple across every part of life. This track is my way of holding up the mirror.”
Recorded with producer Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan) at Cape Cod’s Brick Hill Studio, “The Emperor Wears No Clothes” blends Fignus’ rootsy sensibility with an Eastern European-inspired beat and cutting lyrical precision. It’s a sonic commentary for our times—equal parts satire and anthem.

Digney Fignus first caught national attention after winning MTV’s Basement Tapes with his hit “The Girl with the Curious Hand,” leading to a Columbia Records deal and a major-label debut. Over the years, he has become a beloved figure on the Americana and roots rock circuits with albums like Last Planet on the Left (Top 40 Americana Chart, #6 International Roots/Rock), Talk of the Town, and Trouble on the Levee. His songs have been featured on NBC’s Today Show, CBS’s Eleventh Hour, and in numerous independent films and national radio programs.

A Boston underground veteran turned Cape Cod troubadour, Fignus has built a career marked by evolution, independence, and creative integrity. Whether fronting a high-energy band or performing solo, his performances combine humour, heart, and the kind of lyrical honesty that resonates long after the last note fades. “The Emperor Wears No Clothes” arrives at a pivotal time, tapping into the zeitgeist with clarity and conviction—an artist not just observing the world but challenging it.
